sea kayak in tyndall lake, bernardo ohiggins national park,Chile

Program: The Ice Trail (4 days)
Activity Level: Experienced

If you have previous kayaking experience and an excellent physical condition you can't miss this program. We will paddle to the amazing Tyndall River, where between icebergs we will find a hidden glacier in a unique environment.

Day 1: Puerto Natales - Rio Serrano

We will take a truck to the sector of Rio Serrano closest to Puerto Natales, in Torres del Paine National Park. We will board our kayaks and row until we reach a beautiful waterfall, where we will get out and take a short walk (about 200 meters) carrying our kayaks, avoiding the waterfall. Shortly after this we will stop to camp.

Day 2: Lake Tyndall

Today we will move our kayaks, rest, and prepare for the following day. We start out carrying our kayaks towards Rio Tyndall, this part of the river is upstream and it is very complicated to paddle up. Afterwards we will set up our camp and rest a bit with an incredible view of Lake Tyndall.

Day 3: Lake Tyndall - Serrano

Today, we paddle our way into the lake between different ice burgs until arriving at the Glacier Tyndall, where we can see more or less where it has receded. Luckily, the currents are with us when we return to Rio Serrano and along the way we will look for a place to set up camp.

Day 4: Puerto Toro - Puerto Natales

In the morning we will continue our trip on Rio Serrano until we arrive at Puerto Toro. Here we will leave our kayaks and walk 35 minutes to see Glacier Serrano at the foot of Mount Balmaceda in Bernardo O'Higgins National Park. Upon returning to our kayaks, we will load them onto a boat (21 de Mayo) that will take us to Puerto Natales. Before arriving we will stop at a typical Chilean farmhouse for lunch. After this we will continue by motor boat to Puerto Natales.

*This program can present changes in the route to access Lake Tyndall; your guide will make the decision depending on the weather and time of year.

* Please bear in mind that from the beginning to the end of the kayak trip the itinerary may have to be modified owing, of course, to the famous Patagonian wind.

* A Torres del Paine pick-up is also offered as an extension to any of the trekking trips.
